Why are you here?

It’s time for some gratuitous pics of my kids, because they’re cute. I’ve gone back and added pics to a few previous posts as well, including a picture of the horsey cake for Lisa.

So there was a lot of drama here last week and I missed national delurking week. But I really would like to know who you are and why you read this blog. I figure it’s not because I post cute pictures often, because I don’t. So tell me why you’re here and a bit about yourself. If you want, ’cause it’s not really delurking week any more, but I’d still like to know.

  1. hi, i’ve been ‘lurking’ very frequently… i think i’ve only commented twice. as before, i came to your through journey mama. and why do i come here? i think its for some of the same reasons i read journey mama. you are so real and honest and yet you refuse to be beaten down and fight for what you believe is right and good. something in what you say resonates in me, though our lives have been quite different. many times my heart aches for the struggles you go through. i think you’re incredibly courageous both in your writing and the way you seek to live you life. i love writing but rarely do it and find it very scary to think of others reading my writing. i’ve learned to share a bit with my husband though (i’m newly married). thank you for being yourself. (sorry this is so long… and your children are gorgeous).

  2. Well, you know, you skipped that dinner at my house over Christmas vacation. I suppose it was a good excuse, giving birth in a completely different country and all, but when I found out you had a blog I thought I’d drop by to visit you. Digitally speaking, of course.

  3. You asked to know who reads your blog and why. I first happened upon your blog via a friend. She periodically suggests different blogs to read “Alternate Reading” on her site, and since she has impeccable taste I decided to check it out – and now yours is one I read on a frequent basis. It was the letter you wrote to your three-year-old daughter; her “Birthday Letter” that touched me so, and why I come back often to hear about you and your beautiful children. Perhaps, because I lost my mother as a young girl, and enjoy hearing about your thoughts on motherhood, etc….

At any rate, thanks for sharing your thoughts with the rest of the world. And BEST WISHES to you and yours.

  4. I found your blog through a comment you left on JourneyMama’s blogsite. Your past is very similar to mine, and we seem to be very similar in personality and character, so it’s very interesting to read about how your life is…maybe mine will head down the same path in a few years too! I love reading what you write, and your kids are adorable; I can’t wait to get married and have kids of my own.

  5. Mostly because it’s interesting to see the ways people change and grow over the years, in ways you can predict and in ways that astonish you. You’ve always been an honest writer, and so you tell the stories of these changes in true and anguishing ways. The glimpses of the Tortured Genius Husband are also fascinating: some above have commented on similarities between your life and theirs, but I find the opposites with mine equally compelling.

  6. I love how furry the little one is! She is so sweet.

I found you through Owlhaven: I saw a comment you left which intrigued me. I’ve been reading your blog for perhaps a month, and like I said – I really appreciate your writing style and content. Your voice is very clear; I really appreciate that.

    Cheers!

  7. Hi Carrien,
I came across your blog a few months ago and your “About Me” essay pulled me in. I’ve been reading your blog ever since, and I linked to it in an entry on my own blog back in December, here.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! Your kids are indeed beautiful.

  8. My internet service was out for a few days so I didn’t get to comment… Hmmm, why am I here? I found your site through a friend’s blog. I have posted only once, but I have read it continually for about three months now. Your writing is so beautiful and wistful. We are almost polar opposites, yet that is one of the reasons I keep returning to your site. I find your traditions, religion, and thoughts intriguing. It was your birthday letters that hooked me, though! They are the most tender and honest things I have ever read! Best of luck with your beautiful family!

  9. Hmmm….same as everyone else, your writing is compelling.

And I think your lifestyle is as well…..at first I thought you lived in mendocino and that connection was easing my homesickness. I used to live like you live and I think I miss it, we are more mainstream now and it isn’t fitting me well. Apparently I am living vicariously through you LOL

I think I found you through journey mama and the title of your blog was fitting for your wisdom and humor. Thanks for all your share!

  10. Carrien,

I’ll send you an introductory email with more detail than I want to leave in comments if you’d like. =) I can’t see any contact info on the sidebar – do you have a throwaway email account that you don’t mind advertising in public?

  11. I’m de-lurking late (I have a new system for reading blogs and you’re on Thursdays!), but I love your style and wit and common sense.

  12. I read because I am curious. πŸ™‚ Helps me keep up to date with my friend and he crew. πŸ™‚ So many memories, and it’s fun to see how much you have changed….or not. πŸ™‚
